“I remember being around 12 or 13-years-old and going through my mom’s makeup drawers and experimenting with different eyeliners and techniques. Lipsticks were always my favorite, I’ve always had a soft spot for red lips. My mom didn’t wear a lot of makeup, but she taught me that there was beauty in simplicity. And not overdoing it – that would be my number one rule – keep it simple.
My hairstyle is definitely how I express myself. I’ve had short hair for as long as I can remember and I recently grew it out and got it cut quite bluntly – it’s actually quite long right now for me. But I love a sort of geometric look with hair, really, really sharp fringe and sharp ends. I think my own look is quite vintage and retro which I love. I actually just moved to New York, but in Toronto I go to Tony at Red Label Hair Company for cuts – he’s been cutting my hair since I was 8. But now I’m going to Shampoo Avenue B which is in the East Village.
I feel like red lips are such a powerful thing and every time I put on red lipstick it makes me feel so confident and ready to start the day – I really do feel incomplete without it.
And it’s not for anyone else, it’s totally for myself, it’s just such a huge part of my look, I’ve been wearing red lipstick since I was 13 or 14, so as long as I can remember, and it really is an iconic look – I feel like anyone can pull it off, depending on the shade of course – I have on Arthur by Chanel.
I always do the cat eye too, I use a L’Oreal felt pen, I love it, it stays on all day and never smudges, and is really, really, precise and has a good angle to draw with which is great.”
